Hermann Vaske explores the world of ideas trying to find answers to some of the trickiest questions. Where do ideas come from? Why do they die? How do innovations influence people? Why do we like to exchange news and constantly rethink the world? Films work best when they are personal. As part of his own quest, for over 30 years Vaske filmed the world's most intriguing artists and thinkers posing the same question: "Why are you creative?". Most of his subjects, for example, Björk, Bowie, Stark or Lynch – need no introduction. We all know them, and we like to hear them talk again and again. The talking head genre is not the most exciting in documentary films, but in case of Why We Are Creative every speaker is a universe, and all they say on the subject is important. There are no blanket answers here. The most interesting here is to watch how the director takes his interviewees off guard. We use words to describe ideas. However, all magic behind creativity goes beyond any words.
Before the screening of the large-scale research documentary by Hermann Vaske, there will be a discussion about why, from a scientific point of view, we create and whether it is possible to measure creativity. Neurophysiologist Konstantin Anokhin and Alexandra Rudyk, editor-in-chief of «Dialogi iskusstv» magazine, will approach these questions together with the audience.
