The studio of Darren Aronofsky, the famous director of dark films which go beyond all boundaries, released his first VR project called SPHERES. It is a massive three-part immersive journey into a black hole, narrated by Jessica Chastain, Patti Smith, and Milly Bobby Brown. SPHERES was the first VR project that was purchased for seven figures at Sundance. At the festival, the studio presented the first part of the series, Songs of Spacetime. The second episode made the finals of Emmy 2018.
For this project, Aronofsky brought some of the best people in the industry: from director Eliza McNitt to composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, who wrote music for the Stranger Things series. SPHERES won the Best Virtual Reality Award at Venice Film Festival. This reinforces the fact VR has become the main source of experimental entertainment for contemporary audiences.
